Please read the following announcement from Superintendent Linda Luna:

Thank you for your continued patience and kind understanding during these difficult times of COVID-19. Student and staff safety remains our highest priority, and with that in mind, we are needing to make an unprecedented decision to close all Washington Unified schools for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

This difficult decision is aligned with the Yolo County Department Public Health, Yolo County Office of Education and both the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and the Governor of California.

Though schools will remain physically closed, the educational program for our students will continue until the last day of the school year in June. Instruction and learning will look different than in our classrooms, and our staff continues to prepare for the transition to distance learning beginning on April 14th.

While distance learning is new for all of us, we are committed to ensuring positive and meaningful learning experiences for the remainder of this school year. By now teachers have reached out to their students and families to check in and have been working together to prepare for the rest of the semester in providing more structure and continue in the learning processes for our students. Chromebooks are being distributed at every school site as requested by students and parents.

Information is changing daily and we will do our best to keep you apprised each time we receive new guidance. Right now things can seem overwhelming and anxious as both school and home life have been disrupted. Through the strength and perseverance of all of us in community, we will make it through this difficult time. Through the trials of COVID-19, we will return stronger as a community with a deeper appreciation for each other and a reminder of what our WUSD Family has meant to us all.

On Friday, April 3rd, I will be providing a follow up update with additional details about our district-wide plans moving forward. Please stay tuned.

Truly yours,

Linda C. Luna, Superintendent
Washington Unified School District
